Probably a dumb question but why do you need rifles?? Is it customary to Arty them when you go out researching in case of animal attacks or something?

Those are not reduced prices for being members. The prices are increased for everyone who does not want to give up their purchasing data. Just stop being members and go to a different store to get rid of this ridicilous system.

Wonderful job with these videos! I come back to this and the tour video occasionally for motivation because it's my dream to move to Svalbard. They help to motivate me to keep learning the language. Maybe one day I'll be in the background of one of these videos :) (if you guys are ever looking for someone with a background in Computer Engineering and who is also eager (desperate) to learn whatever is needed for the job, feel free to contact me lol)

The pronounciation of coop is very sweet. The reason you talk about membership is because it's a form of company called a cooperative, meaning it's members are essentially shareholders. Originally started in Scotland, so correctly it is co-op, with a hard c ;)

You can come, but you cannot buy the right to real estate. If you can pay for accommodation and services, you can live. But before death, everyone is taken back to their homeland. Dying is prohibited on the island and there is no cemetery.
